This year, Eid-ul-Fitr 2023 is expected to be celebrated on Friday, 21st of April 2023, or on Saturday, 22nd of April 2023. However, the exact date is subject to the sighting of the moon of Shawwal, 1444, the 10th month of the Islamic Calendar.

WHAT IS EID AL FITR?

Eid ul Fitr, known as ’عيد الفطر’ in Arabic and Asian countries, is a religious festival for all Muslims around the world. Ramadan, a holy month, ends with Eid al-Fitr. Allah rewards Muslims who fasted during the month of Ramadan with Eid al Fitr. Additionally, believers are expressing their gratitude to Allah for providing them with the opportunity and the fortitude to obey His orders during the glorious month of Ramadan. Eid al Fitr is traditionally observed over three days in practically all Muslim nations.

Both Eid ul Fitr and Eid Al-Adha have great significance in Islam as the same is evident from the following Hadith:

Narrated that Anas bin Malik (R.A.), who said:

“Allah has given you better than those feasts (festivals of non-believers): the ‘Eid-ul-Adha’ and ‘Eid-ul-Fitr’”

                                (An-Nasai: 1556)

One thing to keep in mind is that fasting on Eid days, such as Eid ul-Fitr and Eid al-Adha, is prohibited as the following Hadith makes clear:

Narrated Abu Said Al-Khudri (R.A.) that Prophet (S.A.W.) said:

"No fasting is permissible on the two days of Eid-ul-Fitr and EId-ul-Adha.”

                                (Sahih Bukhari: 1995)
